"I consider myself fortunate to have met the author of this book Scott Smith. Him and I have become good friends since, in fact I'm taking tennis lessons from him right now. I've played tennis with a group of buddies well over 20 years, and 15 years before that on my own without a single tennis lesson in my life! I figured, why not now at the age of 63 years old. Why? Because I love Tennis! It's not too late to learn at any age. In fact since retirement I've become a USTA official, so I can be involved in Tennis Tournaments and earn a little extra money. This book is about one man's perspective on what the sport of Tennis is like from the business side of things, as a Tennis professional making it his working career. What it was like back in the day and what it has become now. Scott is brutally honest in his account at times, but it comes from the heart on a positive note. The Tennis business can be prosperous for all professionals and he doesn't want anybody screwing things up along the way. Based on my USTA training as an OFFICIAL, the Organization teaches positive behavior toward the Sport and encourages fair play always. The USTA Organization, the Tennis Professionals, the Officials and Players are all connected and we need each other to keep this Business around for many years to come. Read this book and tell yourself, where do you fit in? My philosophy is... Tennis keeps us all young and alive if you learn how to truly play the game. JC"

- I consider myself fortunate to have met the author of this book Scott Smith. Him and I have become good friends since, in fact I'm taking tennis lessons from him right now. I've played tennis with a group of buddies well over 20 years, and 15 years before that on my own without a single tennis lesson in my life! I figured, why not now at the age of 63 years old. Why? - This book contains a ton of useful information and insights into the game and business of tennis, all told in a charming and conversational style which makes it must reading for anyone interested in the game, be they a weekend player or a professional tennis teacher or club manager. The author draws upon a lifetime of experience as a tennis pro and as a teacher at all levels to lay out the the correct paths to follow, and more importantly, the pitfalls to avoid, if one is interested in a successful career in tennis or merely loves the game. Filled with entertaining and instructive anecdotes, as well as very specific information, this book more than lives up to its title. I highly recommend it.
- The cover and price caught my eye and I bought it on a whim. I was not disappointed. This book presents tennis and the business of tennis in a way that could only come from spending much of a lifetime in love with the sport and the art of teaching it to others. As it notes, it is also about much more. It struck me as speaking to the pursuit of happiness and finding a way (the right way) to make a living in that pursuit, along with life lessons, physical and emotional bumps and bruises, joys, and insights that typically follow from such a pursuit. In short, I found it to be a fun, refreshing, and inspiring read. Made me think that the American Dream is alive and well on a tennis court somewhere in California.
- Great read even if you are not aspiring to be a tennis coach or wanting to run a tennis business. I found the book to be a refreshing and honest view of the tennis world. As a parent of two junior tennis players, there were insights and perspectives I had not read or heard of before that will guide my kids on their tennis journey.
The best parts of the book are the personal stories. As a reader, I feel the passion and love he has for the game. It clearly comes across in his words. I hope he writes another book. I'll like to read more of his stories. The tennis world needs more coaches like Scott. The tennis universe is a better place because of people like Scott. - Being in the tennis industry for over 30 years, it was nice to find this book which focused on the business aspect of the sport. This is a great read for the inspired tennis player or business person who would like to make a career in tennis. Everything is covered in detail from being a racquet stringer to a tournament director. Scott Smith's stories, experiences and passion for the game were a pleasure to learn about. Over the years I have read many tennis biographies and instructional type books, this is a unique read and highly recommended for the tennis enthusiast.
- Scott did a excellent job in covering all aspects of the tennis business and what works and what doesn't. I've known Scott for over 30 years and have experienced many of the topics that he covered. Great insight on the great game of tennis with funny stories that tell all.
Scott taught me the game of Olympics back in the 80's at King Harbor tennis in Redondo Beach which i still use to this day.
it is a must read for any young tennis pro's trying to make it in the Tennis business.
Well done Scott !!!
Thanks Mark Mc Guire - This is a unique tennis book unlike any other out there in that it explains how to get into the tennis business. There are hundreds of books out there on hitting techniques etc..., but none on how to start a career in this field. It is a easy read with many personal stories making it fun and interesting. I’d recommend this book to anyone thinking about entering the business as well as those already doing so.
- I really enjoyed reading this - it was like listening to a good story-teller talk about the ups and downs, pros and cons, twists and turns, the pains and the joys of trying to teach someone a sport, filled with funny anecdotes. Told with a gentle, self-deprecating cantor, the author clearly enjoyed his job - crazy clients and all! I could 'hear' the author's soft chuckles as he recalled his most memorable clients. Fun and easy reading. Delightful.
